Cosmetic ingredients to avoid during pregnancy

After last week’s post, it is the time to focus on what not to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some of the studies on ingredients I have found are not complete enough to establish a proper negative list. In my opinion, while some conclusive data arrives, it is better to avoid them completely.

With this in mind, I created a general list, which is not exhaustive but I guess it represents a good starting point, of the ingredients, you need to remove from your beauty regime during pregnancy and throughout lactation.

These ingredients can interfere in many ways with your pregnancy and even the newborn, the common issue with the most of them, is that they have the ability to penetrate our protective barrier, in fact, some can take as little as 30 minutes to reach our blood which is what happens with most essential oils.

I reviewed all the essential oils biography I have in the studio. There are some basic recommendations on when to start using them, which is usually after the initial 12 weeks, and the ones to avoid which vary in all the literature I checked. So instead of listing some limitations I am more prone to put a complete ban on them as I am never sure of their origin, impurities, quality, how have they been handled, oxidation issues, etc.

Hope you find the following list useful.
